During childhood, Nat was made a refugee at the time when Namibia’s indigenous people were in the thick of liberation struggles. As a child Nat lived in a number of refugee camps in several African countries. His father was a liberation fighter who lost his life fighting for the liberation of his country. Nat valued children’s stories during his time as a refugee, living in camps with other African children. He remembered the joy and satisfaction children’s stories brought to him and his young friends, during this time. He is able to recall many children’s stories
told in the camps, and vowed from an early age that, when it was possible, he
too would write stories for children to bring happiness, joy and good will among the
innocents.
